Stephen Potter grew up in New York City. With a mother as a painter and a father as an architect (also a brother who is a painter), becoming a sculptor was a natural outcome of being in an artistic environment and also having a disposition to make art in three dimensions. He received his formal training at The Art Students’ League of New York, studying drawing, anatomy, and sculpture in clay.
The human figure has always been his first interest and focus as it encompasses and represents all of the elements of beauty and design. He has been in various shows including The Emerging Artists Competition (Limner Gallery, NY); The 4th Annual All Media Competition (Ridge Art Association, Winterhaven, FL); Annual Grand National Exhibition (American Artists Professional League, NY); Santa Fe Trail International Art Show (Trinidad, CO); and The Nude in Painting and Sculpture (The Rommel Gallery, Santa Fe, NM). The awards he has received include Best in Show at the Santa Fe Trail International Art Show. He is currently represented by The Freeman Gallery in Santa Fe, NM.
